Heyyy!!! I'd like to first say thank you for checking out my new website and welcome to my blog!
My name is Ciera Haynes and I am a wife, mom to one beautiful little girl, with another kiddo baking (due March 5, 2020), a Texas Certified Public Accountant, an Enrolled Agent and a full-time entrepreneur. (Did all of that make y'all say "Whew!", 'cause I sure did!)
I live with my husband in a small town approximately 1 hour south of Houston, TX. We live on 6.5 acres of land, so it's a great place for us to raise children, grow our garden and for my friends to escape the city life on the weekends.
I am a graduate of the University of Houston - Bauer School of Business, with a BBA in Business Management. My husband on the other hand, *insert eye-roll* graduated from Rice University, so there's a lot of college rivalry within our house. So much so our daughter has made the decision, at 7, to go to The University of Texas. LOL. .... I actually want her to go to Howard or Xavier but I won't get ahead of myself. Again, she's only 7!
Prior to becoming an accountant, I was a middle & high school teacher for 5 years and taught math & business education. I thought that I wanted to become a principal but I realized that working as a K-12 educator was not my ministry. But, kudos to the people who do it though. You guys are the real MVP's!
Once I left education I went back to The University of Houston to obtain my Certificate of Accountancy, a post-graduate certificate to obtain the hours that I needed to sit for the Texas CPA, while working full-time. I've had several people ask why I chose the certificate route and not to obtain my Masters of Accountancy or MBA and the short answer, and truth, is time and money. At the time I was looking to make a QUICK exit from education and enrolling in a graduate program would have required me to take the GMAT, further delaying my entry. I also was an accounting major in undergrad, before changing my major (we'll come back to that in another blog conversation) so I didn't need that many more hours to sit for the CPA exam. Doing either graduate program would have forced me to take more courses than I needed to actually sit for the exam and would have cost me much more money in tuition.
While in school, I honestly thought that was and would be the hardest part of my journey but studying for the CPA exam beat that experience by a long shot. The CPA was by far, one of the most challenging things I've ever done. It pushed me mentally, spiritually and even relationally. It was a beast! I'm so glad that it's over. (I will create another blog post on this experience later)
When I'm not working with clients, I spend my time taking CPE courses to update myself on the latest accounting and tax changes, and spending time with my family. Prior to Covid I enjoyed eating out and traveling to exotic beaches each summer, butttt yeah. Maybe next year. LOL I also enjoy sharing my knowledge with others via my new blog, Facebook, Instagram and recently, Clubhouse. (I still get to use my education background so I guess it wasn't really a wasted experience.) I created this blog as a way to keep my clients, and potential clients, updated on not only tax changes but also on myself, my family and my Christian/spiritual journey. I've been told that people do business with people they know, like and trust and it it my hope that I am able to build that relationship with you all through my updates. It is my intention to send out a new blog post at least twice a month. By following my blog, you all will be the first people to receive the updates with more in-depth information than what will be posted on social media. So again, THANK YOU for subscribing to my blog and newsletter! If you have suggestions or general questions that you would like for me to post about, please feel free to send me a message. If you have specific questions about your business or tax situation, please go to my scheduling page and book a paid consultation Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram and Clubhouse and follow my business page on Facebook. (all of my social media handles are @CieraHaynesCPA).
